貓音樂劇還有一段是我也很喜歡的，那就是 Gus: the theatre cat
大概不會有比 DVD 版更好的 Gus: the theatre cat, 演 Gus 的是已故英國演員 Sir John Mills (22 February 1908 - 23 April 2005)。他在1998年拍這部DVD時，應該已是高齡 90 了。那種滄桑，歷練，不用演，只要站在那邊就是那隻老的劇院貓了。欣賞的時候，要仔細看他的表情喔。由於是他演劇院貓，所以後面情節--他年輕時是一位劇院演員，演的角色是 Growltiger 格羅泰格。這一段年輕時的歌舞就沒辦法由 90 高齡的他來表演，所以在DVD，整段情節就被刪除了。
歌詞裡充滿著過往情懷，正好契合「Momery」，曲調憂鬱中帶點感傷，一點點的歡樂。他的出場，在 Grizabella 之後 再次深化了主題：他們所擁有的只是「過去的幸福」，美麗又珍貴。
有一天，我們都會老去，變成一隻 Gus 或是 Grizabella 了。

全家去看了26日台南下午場的“貓音樂劇”。欣賞表演之前，買了DVD先看過一遍，先對表演內容有個底。
DVD 的表演者是千挑萬選出來的一時之秀，自然是無法超越的。但，臨場感是無可取代的震憾，演員和觀眾的互動，每個段落的掌聲，不在預期中的中文演唱，表演者跑到你身邊，你可以清楚聽到他是現場唱的。中場休息，在人群穿梭的貓群，是大家一致的歡欣。
台南的售票狀況，2F, 3F較便宜的票早就銷售一空（1200, 1800, 2800)。一樓高價區還有一些空位(3800, 4800, 5800)。剛開演，我們是坐在14排，中場休息後我們跑到4排沒人的位置上，演員的表情也都看得 很清楚。下半場開演前，旁邊又坐來一些人，本來也是想跟我們一樣換好一點座位的觀眾。表演完，才發現是台南市長許添財夫婦！
當然大家最喜歡的還是 Memory 這首了。其實 memory 唱了兩遍，歌詞是有些許的不同的。我們看看全本的 memory。

(132) 秋分，望
9/23日是秋分，白天和黑夜的長度是一樣的。農曆是十六，望。今晚的月亮是最圓的。
這麼完美的日子，學妹Phoebe稍來壞消息。
Lisa 是我們吃飯的朋友。長安和我偶爾會抽空在中午找 Lisa 與 Phoebe 去吃吃飯，聊聊八卦。Phoebe 是友達 VIP 的秘書，我們聯詠是友達的客戶，所以長安總笑著說，我們是在做客戶服務，陪客戶吃飯。Lisa 就是陪客啦！
Lisa 是聯電時期的同事，memory SBU 的 product engineer，同她的姓一樣，是個包打聽。Phoebe 是中山大學外文系的學妹。和他們比較熟是他們後來在專利室的那段期間，我申請的一些專利，常跑專利室，也就混熟了。長安在聯電業務部時就認識了 Lisa，後來在友達和Phoebe 熟識的。就這樣，在長安從友達來聯詠後，四個認識的朋友就變成了吃飯的朋友。
和 Lisa 最後一次吃飯是去年十月底，我從聯詠離職時，四位朋友在一起歡送。那時，Lisa 還有說有笑地談著八卦。想她這麼樂觀，應該可以熬過來吧！
Phoebe哽咽地告訴我Lisa的近況。昏迷指數3，醫生已要家屬做最壞的打算，也簽了放棄急救同意書。
聽完，心情很沉重。唉，人真的很脆弱... 任何事都可能發生。
想到了她... 如國我走了，有甚麼可以留給她。就這 blog 吧！Blog 放了許多她不知道的事，只要她能尋得。

(123) English speech at 1993
在新竹的前幾年裏，我參加了新竹英語演講勵進會(Hsin-Chu Toastmaster Club)，這是我當時的第二次英文演講，我選擇了一個孩子將要出生的父親的期待心情來發表我的演講，事隔多年，當時的緊張還歷歷在前。
這幾天整修頂樓的房間給兒子當書房，在紙箱裏翻出這篇英語演講。123對我有特別的意義，就用這篇演講稿做為第123篇貼文吧！
Topic: Wishes of a father-to-be (C-2 Speech)

ToastMaster of this evening, our distinguish guests, ladies, and gentlemen:
Good evening. Tonight, it's my great honor here to deliver my C-2 speech. My topic is "wishes of a father-to-be." Why do I choose this topic for my second speech? You probably know the answer already! I am going to be a father in the coming January. These days, I have been asked many times, what the feeling is to be a father. Well, actually I don't know.
Most of the time I cannot do anything but waiting for the birth of my baby. Usually, what I can do is taking my wife to the hospital for prenatal examination, and try to find my baby from the video screen of supersonic inspector. I remember the first time I see it, it just like a small round stuff like the picture in many books. The doctor measured its diameter and said, "It is the baby." Last time in the hospital, the doctor pointed the screen and said, "This is head. These are legs. This is noise. And, that is why I am sure it is a boy!"
One day, I asked my dear wife about her wishes about our coming baby. "Well," she said, "I hope my baby is a healthy boy, with two arms, two legs, and not a idiot." Oh, what a simple wish!
I think I can play a better part to be a good father after the baby is born. But what can I actually do fro my lovely child?
Let's go back to the basic problem that have been discussed in many icebreak speeches. What is a successful life?
House, money, career, wife, children...
I am poor now. I don't know whether or not I can offer a house to my child. Money, maybe some. Career, wife, children, I can't help. We can not offer everything the children want. What can I do to help him? I think it is education. Education gives him the potential and ability to have a successful life. I believe that parents have no right to determine what a successful life is for their children. Its definition is up to the children. Maybe he wants to be a millionaire. Maybe he wants to be a professor. Maybe he wants to be a poor artist with happy life. It is up to his choice. What we can do is to give them the ability to choose, to choose a wise choice.
Finally I would like to use some words as the conclusion of my speech. I write these words in my diary when I am in graduated school. The original one was written in Chinese, let me express them in English:
"How to be a good father? If I were a father, what should I do?
I will give my son a book of fish, so he know there are many beautiful fish in the water.
I will give my son a book of birds, so he will know there are many beautiful birds in the sky.

ToastMaster of this evening, our distinguish guests, ladies, and gentlemen:
Good evening. Tonight, it's my great honor here to deliver my C-2 speech. My topic is "wishes of a father-to-be." Why do I choose this topic for my second speech? You probably know the answer already! I am going to be a father in the coming January. These days, I have been asked many times, what the feeling is to be a father. Well, actually I don't know.
Most of the time I cannot do anything but waiting for the birth of my baby. Usually, what I can do is taking my wife to the hospital for prenatal examination, and try to find my baby from the video screen of supersonic inspector. I remember the first time I see it, it just like a small round stuff like the picture in many books. The doctor measured its diameter and said, "It is the baby." Last time in the hospital, the doctor pointed the screen and said, "This is head. These are legs. This is noise. And, that is why I am sure it is a boy!"
One day, I asked my dear wife about her wishes about our coming baby. "Well," she said, "I hope my baby is a healthy boy, with two arms, two legs, and not a idiot." Oh, what a simple wish!
I think I can play a better part to be a good father after the baby is born. But what can I actually do fro my lovely child?
Let's go back to the basic problem that have been discussed in many icebreak speeches. What is a successful life?
House, money, career, wife, children...
I am poor now. I don't know whether or not I can offer a house to my child. Money, maybe some. Career, wife, children, I can't help. We can not offer everything the children want. What can I do to help him? I think it is education. Education gives him the potential and ability to have a successful life. I believe that parents have no right to determine what a successful life is for their children. Its definition is up to the children. Maybe he wants to be a millionaire. Maybe he wants to be a professor. Maybe he wants to be a poor artist with happy life. It is up to his choice. What we can do is to give them the ability to choose, to choose a wise choice.
Finally I would like to use some words as the conclusion of my speech. I write these words in my diary when I am in graduated school. The original one was written in Chinese, let me express them in English:
"How to be a good father? If I were a father, what should I do?
I will give my son a book of fish, so he know there are many beautiful fish in the water.
I will give my son a book of birds, so he will know there are many beautiful birds in the sky.

(114) 一切都是最好的安排

從前有一個國家，地不大，人不多，但是人民過著悠閒快樂的生活，因為他們有一位不喜歡做事的國王和一位不喜歡做官的宰相。國王沒有什麼不良嗜好，除了打獵以外，最喜歡與宰相微服私訪民隱。宰相除了處理國務以外，就是陪著國王下鄉巡視，如果是他一個人的話，他最喜歡研究宇宙人生的真理，他最常掛在嘴邊的一句話就是「一切都是最好的安排」。
有一次，國王興高采烈又到大草原打獵，隨從們帶著數十條獵犬，聲勢浩蕩。國王的身體保養得非常好，筋骨結實，而且肌膚泛光，看起來就有一國之君的氣派。隨從看見國王騎在馬上，威風凜凜地追逐一頭花豹，都不禁讚歎國王勇武過人！
花豹奮力逃命，國王緊追不捨，一直追到花豹的速度減慢時，國王才從容不迫彎弓搭箭，瞄準花豹，嗖的一聲，利箭像閃電似的，一眨眼就飛過草原，不偏不倚鑽入花豹的頸子，花豹慘嘶一聲，仆倒在地。
國王很開心，他眼看花豹躺在地上許久都毫無動靜，一時失去戒心，居然在隨從尚未趕上時，就下馬檢視花豹。誰想到，花豹就是在等待這一瞬間，使出最後的力氣突然跳起來向國王撲過來。
國王一愣，看見花豹張開血盆大口咬來，他下意識地閃了一下，心想：「完了！」還好，隨從及時趕上，立刻發箭射入花豹的咽喉，國王覺得小指一涼，花豹就們不吭聲跌在地上，這次真的死了。
隨從忐忑不安走上來詢問國王是否無恙，國王看看手，小指頭被花豹咬掉小半截，血流不止，隨行的御醫立刻上前包紮。雖然傷勢不算嚴重，但國王的興致破壞光了，本來國王還想找人來責罵一番，可是想想這次只怪自己冒失，還能怪誰？所以悶不吭聲，大夥兒就黯然回宮去了。
回宮以後，國王越想越不痛快，就找了宰相來飲酒解愁。宰相知道了這事後，一邊舉酒敬國王，一邊微笑說：「大王啊！少了一小塊肉總比少了一條命來得好吧！想開一點，一切都是最好的安排！」
國王一聽，悶了半天的不快終於找到宣洩的機會。他凝視宰相說：「嘿！你真是大膽！你真的認為一切都是最好的安排嗎？」宰相發覺國王十分憤怒，卻也毫不在意說：「大王，真的，如果我們能夠超越『我執』，確確實實，一切都是最好的安排！」
國王說：「如果寡人把你關進監獄，這也是最好的安排？」宰相微笑說：「如果是這樣，我也深信這是最好的安排。」
國王說：「如果寡人吩咐侍衛把你拖出去砍了，這也是最好的安排？」宰相依然微笑，彷彿國王在說一件與他毫不相干的事。「如果是這樣，我也深信這是最好的安排。」
國王勃然大怒，大手用力一拍，兩名侍衛立刻近前，他們聽見國王說：「你們馬上把宰相抓出去斬了！」侍衛愣住，一時不知如何反應。
國王說：「還不快點，等什麼？」侍衛如夢初醒，上前架起宰相，就往門外走去。國王忽然有點後悔，他大叫一聲說：「慢著，先抓去關起來！」宰相回頭對他一笑，說：「這也是最好的安排！」
國王大手一揮，兩名侍衛就架著宰相走出去了。過了一個月，國王養好傷，打算像以前一樣找宰相一塊兒微服私巡，可是想到是自己親口把他關入監獄裏，一時也放不下身段釋放宰相，嘆了口氣，就自己獨自出遊了。走著走著，來到一處偏遠的山林，忽然從山上衝下一隊臉上塗著紅黃油彩的蠻人，三兩下就把他五花大綁，帶回高山上。國王這時聯想到今天正是滿月，這一帶有一支原始部落明逢月圓之日就會下山尋找祭祀滿月女神的犧牲。他唉歎一聲，這下子真的是沒救了。
心裏很想跟蠻人說：我乃這裏的國王，放了我，我就賞賜你們金山銀海！可是嘴巴被破布塞住，連話都說不出口。當他看見自己被帶到一口比人還高的大鍋爐，柴火正熊熊燃燒，更是臉色慘白。
大祭司現身，當眾脫光國王的衣服，露出他細皮嫩肉的龍體，大祭司嘖嘖稱奇，想不到現在還能找到這麼完美無暇的犧牲！原來，今天要祭祀的滿月女神，正是「完美」的象徵，所以，祭祀的牲品醜一點、黑一點、矮一點都沒有關係，就是不能殘缺。就在這時，大祭司終於發現國王的左手小指頭少了小半截，他忍不住咬牙切齒咒罵了半天，忍痛下令說：「把這個廢物趕走，另外再找一個！」
脫困的國王大喜若狂，飛奔回宮，立刻叫人釋放宰相，在御花園設宴，為自己保住一命、也為宰相重獲自由而慶祝。國王一邊向宰相敬酒說：「愛卿啊！你說的真是一點也不錯，果然，一切都是最好的安排！如果不是被花豹咬一口，今天連命都沒了。」宰相回敬國王，微笑說：「賀喜大王對人生的體驗又更上一層樓了。」
過了一會兒，國王忽然問宰相說：「寡人救回一命，固然是『一切都是最好的安排』，可是你無緣無故在監獄裏蹲了一個月，這又怎麼說呢？」宰相慢條斯理喝下一口酒，才說：「大王！您將我關在監獄裏，確實也是最好的安排啊！」他饒富深意看了國王一眼，舉杯說：「您想想看，如果我不是在監獄裏，那麼陪伴您微服私巡的人，不是我，還會有誰呢？等到蠻人發現國王不適合拿來祭祀滿月女神時，那麼，誰會被丟進大鍋爐中烹煮呢？不是我，還會有誰呢？所以，我要為大王將我關進監獄而向您敬酒，您也救了我一命啊！」國王忍不住哈哈大笑，朗聲說：「乾杯吧！果然沒錯，一切都是最好的安排！」

國王一愣，看見花豹張開血盆大口咬來，他下意識地閃了一下，心想：「完了！」還好，隨從及時趕上，立刻發箭射入花豹的咽喉，國王覺得小指一涼，花豹就們不吭聲跌在地上，這次真的死了。
隨從忐忑不安走上來詢問國王是否無恙，國王看看手，小指頭被花豹咬掉小半截，血流不止，隨行的御醫立刻上前包紮。雖然傷勢不算嚴重，但國王的興致破壞光了，本來國王還想找人來責罵一番，可是想想這次只怪自己冒失，還能怪誰？所以悶不吭聲，大夥兒就黯然回宮去了。
回宮以後，國王越想越不痛快，就找了宰相來飲酒解愁。宰相知道了這事後，一邊舉酒敬國王，一邊微笑說：「大王啊！少了一小塊肉總比少了一條命來得好吧！想開一點，一切都是最好的安排！」
國王一聽，悶了半天的不快終於找到宣洩的機會。他凝視宰相說：「嘿！你真是大膽！你真的認為一切都是最好的安排嗎？」宰相發覺國王十分憤怒，卻也毫不在意說：「大王，真的，如果我們能夠超越『我執』，確確實實，一切都是最好的安排！」
國王說：「如果寡人把你關進監獄，這也是最好的安排？」宰相微笑說：「如果是這樣，我也深信這是最好的安排。」
國王說：「如果寡人吩咐侍衛把你拖出去砍了，這也是最好的安排？」宰相依然微笑，彷彿國王在說一件與他毫不相干的事。「如果是這樣，我也深信這是最好的安排。」
國王勃然大怒，大手用力一拍，兩名侍衛立刻近前，他們聽見國王說：「你們馬上把宰相抓出去斬了！」侍衛愣住，一時不知如何反應。
國王說：「還不快點，等什麼？」侍衛如夢初醒，上前架起宰相，就往門外走去。國王忽然有點後悔，他大叫一聲說：「慢著，先抓去關起來！」宰相回頭對他一笑，說：「這也是最好的安排！」
國王大手一揮，兩名侍衛就架著宰相走出去了。過了一個月，國王養好傷，打算像以前一樣找宰相一塊兒微服私巡，可是想到是自己親口把他關入監獄裏，一時也放不下身段釋放宰相，嘆了口氣，就自己獨自出遊了。走著走著，來到一處偏遠的山林，忽然從山上衝下一隊臉上塗著紅黃油彩的蠻人，三兩下就把他五花大綁，帶回高山上。國王這時聯想到今天正是滿月，這一帶有一支原始部落明逢月圓之日就會下山尋找祭祀滿月女神的犧牲。他唉歎一聲，這下子真的是沒救了。
心裏很想跟蠻人說：我乃這裏的國王，放了我，我就賞賜你們金山銀海！可是嘴巴被破布塞住，連話都說不出口。當他看見自己被帶到一口比人還高的大鍋爐，柴火正熊熊燃燒，更是臉色慘白。
大祭司現身，當眾脫光國王的衣服，露出他細皮嫩肉的龍體，大祭司嘖嘖稱奇，想不到現在還能找到這麼完美無暇的犧牲！原來，今天要祭祀的滿月女神，正是「完美」的象徵，所以，祭祀的牲品醜一點、黑一點、矮一點都沒有關係，就是不能殘缺。就在這時，大祭司終於發現國王的左手小指頭少了小半截，他忍不住咬牙切齒咒罵了半天，忍痛下令說：「把這個廢物趕走，另外再找一個！」
脫困的國王大喜若狂，飛奔回宮，立刻叫人釋放宰相，在御花園設宴，為自己保住一命、也為宰相重獲自由而慶祝。國王一邊向宰相敬酒說：「愛卿啊！你說的真是一點也不錯，果然，一切都是最好的安排！如果不是被花豹咬一口，今天連命都沒了。」宰相回敬國王，微笑說：「賀喜大王對人生的體驗又更上一層樓了。」
過了一會兒，國王忽然問宰相說：「寡人救回一命，固然是『一切都是最好的安排』，可是你無緣無故在監獄裏蹲了一個月，這又怎麼說呢？」宰相慢條斯理喝下一口酒，才說：「大王！您將我關在監獄裏，確實也是最好的安排啊！」他饒富深意看了國王一眼，舉杯說：「您想想看，如果我不是在監獄裏，那麼陪伴您微服私巡的人，不是我，還會有誰呢？等到蠻人發現國王不適合拿來祭祀滿月女神時，那麼，誰會被丟進大鍋爐中烹煮呢？不是我，還會有誰呢？所以，我要為大王將我關進監獄而向您敬酒，您也救了我一命啊！」國王忍不住哈哈大笑，朗聲說：「乾杯吧！果然沒錯，一切都是最好的安排！」
在人的一生中所遭遇的困境，在當下或許是如此難以接受，但在過後突然某一時刻中會覺得一切都是最好的安排！

唸研究所時，我住在男六舍113室。那時的男五六舍是前後棟的兩層樓的木造房子，六舍在裏面，五六舍中間有片草地。113是在最邊間的特大寢室。五六舍的牆是夯土的泥土牆，我們都用報表紙貼在牆上當壁紙，睡較得要用蚊帳。二樓的地板是木頭的，走起來會嘻蟀嘻蟀的。昔日的室友也都很有成就，林是中山大學的教授，陳是矽統科技的總經理，廖聽說賺了錢從雷凌退休回家帶小孩了，只有那位土木研究所的室友不知去向。
